Long Term Disability Lawyer: Review Boards

The “Top” Toronto Disability Lawyers have it easy. Many have subscribed to awards or accolades which proclaim their being the “best” or “top” long term disability lawyers. Some are eager to say they’re #1 reviewed, or top-rated, but these rating systems are highly subjective and may not accurately represent the clientele.
Watchdogs have inquired as to the relevance or stigma these awards may have in the long term disability lawyer field. The Upper Canada Law Society forbids “misleading, confusing or deceptive” advertising. We believe the practice of false reviews, non-client testimonials and baseless accolades strikes at all three.
The Upper Canada Law Society has, apparently, done little to ensure the factual relevance or verifiability of many statements which long term disability law firms have made (see this article from the Toronto Star). Toronto review boards, which give such accolades, do not feel the need to publicly justify their criteria or input demographic for ratings systems. Who is judging the lawyers?
Many would like to examine the false and misleading advertising that has been made by toronto disability lawyers and long term disability lawyers in toronto. It is not right to incur client interest on a false pretense.

Adam Wagman, a personal injury lawyer and president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, which represents about 1,600 personal injury lawyers and staff, said his group wants “to see the rules strengthened to eliminate false and misleading advertising that takes advantage of consumers.”

In Rule 4.2-1: Marketing of Professional Services (found under the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Website),  Lawyers may not market services if the marketing is

  1. is demonstrably true, accurate and verifiable;
  2. is neither misleading, confusing, or deceptive, nor likely to mislead, confuse or deceive; and
  3. is in the best interests of the public and is consistent with a high standard of professionalism.
    We would like to see Long Term Disability Lawyers uphold such a statement.
